Where presence emerges in the space between.
Space — "Ma"
This series is based on the Japanese concept of "Ma".
"Ma" does not mean emptiness or a void.
It refers to the space in between—
between objects,
between sounds,
between movements—
a space where meaning and presence quietly emerge.
In Japanese culture, "Ma" has long been understood as the place where essence, beauty, and human perception reside.
The particles scattered across the surface—
resembling stars or passing meteors—
are not forms I intentionally painted or composed.
They are traces that naturally emerged through
gravity, air currents,
the weight of the paint,
and the speed of its fall—
physical forces interacting with one another, leaving behind marks of "Ma".
Rather than controlling the outcome,
I create the conditions for phenomena to occur
and allow myself to surrender to them.
The chance moments that arise in this process feel like part of a larger flow— something beyond human intention.
The vast universe exists in much the same way.
Independent of our understanding or plans,
it continues to unfold through countless laws and coincidences layered together.
The light of a star was released far in the past,
traveling immense distances and time
to arrive here, now.
Within it lingers the presence of something vast—
beyond human perception and temporal scale.
From the scale of the universe,
we are small,
existing only for a fleeting moment.
And precisely because of that,
every being we encounter in this world,
and every moment we share,
feels nothing short of miraculous.
"Ma" is not an empty space.
It is a living space—
one that connects existence to existence,
and allows events to come into being.

このシリーズは、日本的な概念である
**「間（Ma）」**をテーマにしています。
間とは、単なる空白や、何もない空間ではありません。
それは、物と物のあいだ、
音と音のあいだ、
動きと動きのあいだに生まれる、
意味や気配が宿る“あいだの空間”です。
日本では古くから、
この「間」にこそ、本質や美、
そして人の感覚が存在すると考えられてきました。
画面に散りばめられた、
星や流星のように見える粒子は、
私が色や形を意図して描いたものではありません。
それらは、
重力や空気の流れ、
絵具の重さや落下の速度によって
自然に生まれた「間」の痕跡です。
私は結果をコントロールするのではなく、
現象が起こるための「場」を整え、
そこに身を委ねています。
その中で生まれる偶然は、
人の意図を超えた、
より大きな流れの一部のようにも感じられます。
広大な宇宙もまた、
私たちの理解や計画とは無関係に、
無数の法則と偶然が重なり合いながら
存在し続けています。
星の光は、
はるか遠い過去に放たれ、
長い時間と距離を越えて、
今ここに届いています。
そこには、
人間の感覚や時間軸を超えた、
大いなる存在の気配があります。
宇宙のスケールから見れば、
私たちは小さく、
ほんの一瞬の存在です。
だからこそ、
この世界で出会い、
共に過ごすすべての存在と瞬間が、
奇跡のように感じられます。
間（Ma）とは、
何もない空間ではなく、
存在と存在を結び、
出来事が生まれるための
生きたSpace（空間）です。
